Distinguished Colleague,
being a friend of Serbia and especially of the Medical Faculty and Medical association of Belgrade, and being an Honorary Member of ACADEMIA MEDICINAE SOCIETATIS MEDICORUM SERBIAE (1994) I write to your colleagues:
WITH GREAT CONCERN the people of Germany and especially the German professors and students and here in Frankfurt the Medical Faculty, and more than 9000 German IPPNW-members, observe the political situation in your country: Thousands of medical students and many professors and docents of YOUR MEDICAL FACULTY IN BELGRADE protest against the obviously undemocratic procedures by ruling political parties after the last election.
I WANT TO URGE YOU, please support those students, University staffs and professors who strive for democracy, legal and free elections and respect for the will of the people.
DO NOT HESITATE to support them, do demonstrate civil courage, do not be afraid of some disadvantages and frustrations. GORBATSCHOW said "Who comes too late, will be punished by life" He had rightly meant the communist rulers of the then East Germany.
Don't be too late, do not disappoint the democratic professors and the academic youth. We German University Professors want to cooperate with you in solidarity of our professions. Do not forget, that Serbia had lost already in the past 4 years thousands of highly intelligent students and scientists, because they had longed for freedom and democracy.
Please, let me know, how I could be of help to you.

With kind and collegial greetings, sincerely
Prof. Dr, med. Ulrich Gottstein
