The Announcement of the Council of the Deans, Managers of the Institutes and members of the Educational-scientific Council of the 26 schools and 7 institutes of the University in Belgrade

At a session which was held on February 20th 1997, the Council of the Deans, Managers of the Institutes and members of the Educational-scientific Council of the University in Belgrade it was concluded that, after the "special law" is adopted and put into effect by the Serbian Parliament, the first demand of the Student Protest 96/97 will be considered fulfilled. The results of the local elections, after all, were proclaimed in accordance with the actual will of the voters and are matching the report of the OSCE mission.

The Council, however, also ascertains with grave concern, that the second and the third demand of the Student Protest 96/97 - those concerning the resignations of the Chancellor and the Student Vice-chancellor - still haven't been met. Due to this, the commencement of the lectures has been needlessly postponed for at least another ten days. Confirming its previous conclusions, regarding professor Velickovic, the Council of the Deans, Managers of the Institutes and members of the Educational-scientific Council of the University in Belgrade insists that he resigns irrevocably and unconditionally, and withdraws from his function, thus enabling the immediate commencement of the lectures of the Belgrade University. The same applies to the Student Vice-chancellor. Nobody's function is worthy of a school year of a whole generation of students ant graduate high school students who are to be enrolled at the University this year.

The Presiding Officer of the Session of the Council
Prof. Dr. Fedor Zdanjski,
the Dean of the School of Technology and Metallurgy
