Plato

The students gathered for the first evening walk since the end of the "Cordon vs. Cordon" project which started two weeks ago and lasted for seven days. The Plato was packed with people protesting against the fraude on the November 17 elections. The speakers were the members of the Initiative Board who spent ten days in the USA propagating the causes of the Student Protest '96/97 and a teacher from the elementary school "Dorcol" who was fired because she tried to organize the strike of teachers because of late and low salaries.

The "Walk"

Today's walk was motivared by the happening last night at the opening of the traditional Belgrade Film Festival FEST97. The festival was traditionaly opened by the mayor of Belgrade, but due to the problems surrounding the elections the official mayor Nebojsa Covic refused to do the honors. Therefore the students decided to walk to Sava Centar, where the festival takes place, and symbolicaly open the festival for themselves.

The student procession walked down Vasina, Kolarceva and Terazije into Prizrenska and Brankova street. From there they crossed Branko's bridge and turned into Milentije Popovic which lead them directly to Sava Centar. There the students, some 30,000 of them, walked past the main door and the procession returned to the Plato at which point the gathering ended.
