The Plato

The Protest program for today started in the usual fashion. After the introductory speeches by members of the Initiative Board, the first guest was announced. Miki Manojlovic, leading actor in the film Underground, said that he was not going to talk about the past. He advised us to prepare our summer wardrobe, since, as he put it, this was not going to end very soon. We also got a cake of support from the Serbian Goldsmith Association. The Protest walk was joined by several police detectives who were fired because they supported the Student Protest.

The "Walk"

The walk scheduled for today had the Student Compound in Novi Beograd as its final destination. The route lead us by Kalemegdan, over Branko's bridge and through the Novi Beograd residential and business areas. After arriving at the Student Compound, the students crowded at the entrance to the main building where they were addressed by several people. The last to speak was the President of the Student Union of the Belgrade University, who held his speech, but could not be heard from the noise of disapproval directed at him by the students. During his speech, a large number of students turned their backs to him protesting against his presence and the organization which he represents. After the speeches ended, the students assembled into a procession which returned to Plato following a similar route. The Protest program was concluded for the day with the return to the Plato.
