Student Protest '96
December 11th, 1996
|More than 30,000students gathered at Plato today again, persistent
in their demands. Among the people who spoke were Zoran Ostojic, reporter
for Radio Studio B, Dejan Savic, actor and professor at the School of Drama,
Bojko Vucic of the City Syndicate "Nezavisnost" from Nis, Nenad
Protic, drama writer, Borislav Babic, singer of OBOJENI PROGRAM a popular
rock-band, Dragan Ranic, president of the syndicate of the "Zastava"
car factory in Kragujevac, and others.
Letters of support from professors, the institute of biology "Sinisa Stankovic", the museum of Modern Art-Belgrade, the students from Valjevo, and many more were read, including the open letter from the students to Branislav Ivkovic, the president of the Belgrade City SPS (Serbian Socialist Party) Board.
Attendance was taken, and there were students from every school who cheered when their school name was read.
Today's walk took us along Vasina and Kolarceva street, across Terazije Square down Balkanska street, where the students booed in front of the building of the Student Syndicate (a puppet organization of the regime which is trying to sabotage the causes of the Student Protest '96). The walk continued along Nemanjina street to the building of the Government of Serbia, up Kneza Milosa street, past the Federal Parliament and the building of "Borba", and then back to Plato.
