Elections in FRY

Dear Mme/Sir,

Despite the information blackout in western media, disturbing news
are seeping out of Serbia in recent days.

According to sources of unknown reliability, opposition parties have
won a majority of votes in most of the voting zones in urban areas.
Milosevic and the SPS is trying to falsify or nullify the results.
Among the events, Danica Draskovic (wife of SPO leader, Vuk Draskovic)
was kidnapped and held in illegal custody for 20 hours by the state
security police (UDBA), and released only after she was threatened
and intimidated.

While elections in other East European states are being covered
extensively on CNN and BBC, not a word is heard on the elections
in Yugoslavia. One interpretation of this bizzare reporting bias
is that Milosevic is considered in the West to be the best Yugoslav
figure for Western interests, and therefore they do not want to give
a voice to his opposition or to report any event that could jeopardize
his position.

I am looking forward to your reporting (in English) on the matter.

Yours sincerely,

Amir A. Handzel
