THE WORLD HERITAGE CITIES OF THE SPAIN ARE PRESENT IN THE FIRST SUMMIT
WITH THE WORLD HERITAGE CITIES MAYORS, RECTORS, AND OF CHRONISTS FROM
LATINAMERICA

Avila, Spain - February 20th, 1997 - Looking forward to exchange
experiences and future solutions, the authorities responsible of the
World Heritage Cities of all Latinamerica and Spain meet this week. The
summit, from the 19th to the 22nd of February, unites the World Heritage
Cities Organization and the Latinamerican and Spanish Organitzation of
Universitites thanks to the State governnment, City Hall, and the
University of Guanajuato; and organizes the First Summit of World Heritage
Cities Mayors, Rectors, and Chronists taking place in the said City of
Guanajuato, which is the State Capital of Guanajuato, Mexico

The Summit searches, amongts its objectives, to constitute an open line
communication, through the exchange of experiences and knowledge through
several meetings. Attending this summit are the mayors, rectors, and
chronists, as well as other cultural authorities and members of de OCPM,
OUI and UNESCO, and also from the Paul Getty Conservation Institute,
which has participated actively in the conservation of the World heritage
Cities.

One of the main points of this summit is the growing impact of the Internet
worldwide. And as a result, World Heritage Cities are looking into
maintaining an open communication through this media in common web stites.

The World Heritage Cities of Spain is an Association formed to work at the
conservation of the cultural and artistic patrimonies of the World Heritage
Cities found in Spain and the pass on this knowledge to future generations
through common goals. The Association was formed by the authorities from
the cities of Avila, Caceres, Cordoba, Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela,
Segovia and Toledo.
