Nikola Tesla, a man of the millenium, was "ethniclly cleansed" from his
birth place

Nikola Tesla the scientist who was voted the 57th most prominent
individual out of 100 in the last 1000 years, was born in 1856 in the
village of Smiljan which was then part of Austro-Hungary. During the
1991-1995 war in ex-Yugoslavia, this part of Krajina was constantly in
Croatian hands and very little fighting occurred there. Despite this, or
perhaps because of this, it is among the most devastated areas of
Krajina. Practically all Serbian houses in the region were destroyed
including Tesla's village of Smiljan. Traces of the Tesla family were
eliminated and defaced as much as possible.
